Steady as You Go

Seakeeper's advanced gyroscopic engineering adjusts to sea conditions for a smoother, steadier ride.

Boating is about the whole experience. The sun, the water, the fresh air. The journey to destinations familiar and unknown. The fishing, the waterskiing, the dipping your toes in, the relaxing. Most importantly, boating is about sharing in the whole experience with those you love. But sometimes, limitations like seasickness or fatigue can prevent that from happening. Seakeeper’s revolutionary gyro stabilization technology significantly reduces boat roll, so everyone can have an enjoyable and safe time on the water.

“There are a host of excuses out there for staying ashore,” says Maggie Meredith, marketing manager at Seakeeper. “Seakeeper takes care of those concerns, ensuring everyone from the very young to the very old will be confident, comfortable and secure onboard in almost any sea conditions.”

Here’s how Seakeeper works: Inside a vacuum encapsulation, a flywheel spins at speeds up to 10,700 rpm. When a boat begins to roll in the waves, the gyro tilts fore and aft, creating a powerful torque that counteracts the port-to-starboard rocking. Seakeeper’s computer sensor automatically adjusts the torque based on sea conditions so the captain doesn’t have to.

“Sea conditions change constantly, depending on weather, location, time of day and how many boats are out and about,” says Andrew Semprevivo, Seakeeper’s vice president of sales and marketing. “With Seakeeper, these factors won’t keep you from using your boat and enjoying your experience on the water, even when the conditions aren’t perfect.”

After great success in the large yacht market, Seakeeper engineers pioneered the same stabilization technology for boats as small as 30 feet. The company now boasts a production line that includes six models, all of which eliminate 70 to 90 percent of boat roll. The lightweight product uses modest electrical power, no outside appendages, and can be installed off centerline, if necessary.

Currently, two Seakeeper 9s are a standard feature on Sea Ray’s flagship L650 Fly. Seakeeper is available on the 510 Fly, L650, L590 Fly and L590, with availability on more models coming soon.

So bring the kids and grandparents onboard, have that romantic dinner at sunset, enjoy the sun even on the windiest days or simply stay out longer to catch that monster fish. Seakeeper makes on-water experiences better, for everyone.
